Trying to learn from the past to be able to make totally new mistakes.
Distributed Operating Systems: Evolution or Revolution?
A new category of Operating Systems is emerging, distributed in their nature and typically available both on-premise and in the cloud. Just as a ‘local’ OS like Linux takes care of managing resources such as CPU cores or RAM on a single machine, a distributed OS manages resources (including networking) cluster-wide. We will review the history of distributed OS and discuss trends such as container technologies, SDNs, immutable infrastructure, and cluster resource scheduler and show how a distributed OS helps you to develop and operate distributed applications faster, better and in a more reliable fashion.
Workshop: Datacenter Operating System 101
This training provides you with a general introduction to the Mesosphere Datacenter Operating System (DCOS), including setup, installation of services such as Marathon, Spark, Cassandra, Kafka and Kubernetes as well as working through the development and deployment of DCOS apps.
The course is targeted mainly at developers and devops and assumes that you have a basic understanding of Git/Github, Linux, AWS and Docker. You will also need a laptop with web browser and shell.
Location: Container Solutions, Korte Leidsedwarsstraat 12, Amsterdam
